The Museum of London tells the story of the world's greatest city and its people from prehistoric times to the present day. Hidden within its award winning galleries, one of our most popular and intriguing spaces is People’s City Gallery.
The title ‘People’s City’ highlights how Londoners are at the heart and forefront of all the displays in this gallery. By the 1850s London was the most populous and wealthiest city in the world and the gallery tells the story of how the capital’s massive population influenced the feel, atmosphere, development and physical look of the city.
The People’s City Gallery displays some of the museum’s finest objects and provides a stunning backdrop for receptions and pre-dinner drinks.
As soon as guests enter the gallery they are immediately immersed in the glamour and exuberance of London at its height of influence and wealth. With key objects such as the unic motor taxi, Selfridges lift, Lyons Tea house and glamorous costume displays, the gallery reveals how London became a premier leisure, shopping and entertainment venue for every class of society.
